A Fat Freddy’s Drop Budapestre is elhozza a Based on a True Story jubileumi turnéját!
Ráadásul ez lesz a legendás új-zélandi zenekar első magyarországi koncertje. A Fat Freddy’s Drop nagysikerű debütáló albuma, a Based on a True Story 21. évfordulós turnéjával érkezik hozzánk 2026. június 19-én az Akvárium Klubba.
A Fat Freddy’s Drop 1999-ben alakult Új-Zélandon, a wellingtoni underground dance zenei szcénából emelkedett ki és vált egy, a műfaji határokat feszegető legendává. Zenéjükben a reggae, dub, soul, techno és jazz keveredik, egy hangos és vidám hangzást kreálva, amely már legelső albumukon, a Based on a True Story-n is tetten érhető volt. A 2005-ben kiadott lemezen 10 friss funk dal hallható, tele furcsa kitérőkkel és meglepetésekkel. Az album történelmi sikert aratott: 111 héten át szerepelt a Top 40-ben és nyolc NZ Music Awards-ot jelentett a zenekarnak, valamint elnyerték a Giles Peterson Worldwide Music Awards-díját is az Egyesült Királyságban.
Most ezzel az úttörő albummal tér vissza a színpadra a Fat Freddy’s Drop. Az 51 koncertes turné a zenekar első fellépése lesz az alapító, Chris „MU” Faiumu hirtelen halála után. A csapat tagjai egységesen döntöttek úgy, hogy folytatják a régóta tervezett turnét. A banda énekese, Dallas Tamaira így nyilatkozott: „Fontos számunkra, hogy tiszteletben tartsuk MU szándékait, és ennek része az is, hogy élőben előadjuk ezt az albumot.”

What’s more, this will be the legendary New Zealand band’s first-ever concert in Hungary. Fat Freddy’s Drop will bring their acclaimed debut album’s 21st anniversary tour, Based on a True Story, to the Akvárium Klub on June 19, 2026.
Formed in 1999 in New Zealand, Fat Freddy’s Drop emerged from Wellington’s underground dance music scene and grew into a boundary-pushing legend. Their music blends reggae, dub, soul, techno, and jazz, creating a loud and joyful sound that was already evident on their debut album, Based on a True Story. Released in 2005, the record features 10 fresh funk tracks filled with unexpected twists and surprises. It achieved historic success—staying in the Top 40 for 111 weeks, winning eight New Zealand Music Awards, and taking home the Giles Peterson Worldwide Music Award in the UK.
Now, Fat Freddy’s Drop is returning to the stage with this pioneering album. The 51-date tour marks the band’s first series of shows since the sudden passing of founding member Chris “MU” Faiumu. The group decided together to countine with the long-planned tour.
Lead singer Dallas Tamaira said: “It’s important to us to honor MU’s intentions, and part of that is performing this album live.”
